LC/MS/MS Analysis Of Coproporphyrin I And Coproporphyrin III In Human Plasma

Researchers have successfully developed and validated a novel bioanalytical assay to quantify coproporphyrin I (CP-I) and coproporphyrin III (CP-III) levels in human plasma. This assay is specifically designed to assess the functional activity of the hepatic transport proteins OATP1B1 and OATP1B3, which play a crucial role in drug metabolism and clearance.

By employing liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for detection, the method enables precise and sensitive monitoring of these biomarkers. This innovative approach holds promise for reducing the need for extensive clinical drug-drug interaction studies, potentially streamlining the drug development process while providing critical insights into hepatic transporter function.
